Cavanaugh's Grille: Reviews & Ratings
Took my teenage son out to the Grille tonight after a baseball game and must admit I’m a little disappointed. I ordered what was advertised as an 8 ounce Angus burger but when it came out, it was clear it was no more than a quarter pounder and it was well done instead of medium. Not only was it smaller than the bun and half as thick as I expected, but the fries were also served cold and were small little schnizlets and not breaded as advertised. Perhaps most frustrating of all was the pitcher of Kona Big Wave Ale was $21. I guess the lesson is buyer beware. I should have asked first. There are usually ~31 pitchers of beer in a half keg so that would be 650 bucks for a keg that average is about $170 retail - roughly at 400% profit margin. Our bill was $55 before tip for two people and we did not order anything superfluous or have any appetizers or desserts. Fortunate my wife and two daughters weren’t there but it’s unfordable for a family at that rate. My son got the vodka pizza and that was good, as well as his Caesar salad, but the price of the beer was outrageous and the hamburger was half sized..
You Need To Know! Had no wait getting into the restaurant. Ordered potato pancakes, pizza, filet sandwich & a berry almond chicken salad . The pancakes were an appetizer but not worth 12 bucks for 5 mini cakes. The pizza was fresh dough but yet bland. The chicken salad was large but yet nothing special as well. The filet sandwich was juicy & excellent. Chopped filet with bacon, provolone, seasoned arugula & garlic aioli. This sandwich was a sure winner! Now You Know!
Not impressed. Very much like "bar food". Sauce for pot stickers super salty. Young waitress slow on beer refills. Brought check without asking if we were done. Wanted to have another beer or two before leaving.
Very pleasant and attentive staff. Food was excellent, Sea Bass and Scallops were ordered. There was a live two man band playing.
Food was decent but it was really over priced bar food, the service wasn’t bad, but it was really dirty inside and outside. None of the tables were wiped off there was dirt on the floor inside and on the deck. There was still Christmas decor up on the fireplace and it’s June. The sliding glass doors to the deck were full of fingerprints. It was a Sunday afternoon and no one was in the place so no excuse for it to be so dirty. I will not go back. The table we were seated at in fact was not wiped off and the waitress never offered to clean it. Very disappointing.
Crowded bar but the food was good. Interesting beer selection. A bit off the path but I'm sure it would be great in the summer with the patio

Welcome to Cavanaugh's Grille, a lively eatery nestled in the heart of Mountain Top, Pennsylvania, at 163 N Main St. This establishment promises a casual dining experience where friends and families can gather after a day of activities or a long work week. The restaurant boasts a varied menu that attempts to cater to diverse tastes, offering everything from burgers to seafood.
As I delve into the offerings of Cavanaugh's Grille, it's important to consider the mixed reviews from patrons. On one hand, many customers rave about the welcoming atmosphere and attentive staff. A standout dish appears to be the filet sandwich, a savory combination of chopped filet, bacon, provolone, seasoned arugula, and garlic aioli—evidence that when Cavanaugh's hits the mark, they do so impressively.
Conversely, diners have expressed disappointment regarding portion sizes and food quality. One customer lamented about receiving an 8-ounce Angus burger that fell short of expectations, both in size and cooking temperature. Complaints regarding the temperature of fries and the premium price of beer indicate that guests may feel the value isn’t aligning with the experience offered. This raises a critical discussion around the importance of consistency and transparency in dining.
Another review pointed to a pleasant visit where the sea bass and scallops were praised. It highlights a potential area where Cavanaugh's can shine; perhaps it’s the seafood selections that deserve further attention. With a live band occasionally providing entertainment, the ambiance can transform into a delightful evening out, if the food experience aligns.
While Cavanaugh's Grille presents itself as a fun place for casual dining, navigating through its menu may require some caution, particularly with their pricing and food accuracy. The restaurant has the potential to be a hit with the right focus on food quality and customer service. All said, for those looking for a relaxed atmosphere post-game or after work, Cavanaugh's Grille remains an option worth exploring, yet with a mindful eye on menu selections.
